Still interested? You should know that TLC does not have the capabilities or the infrastructure of a university in the developed world: quite the contrary. You will live off the grid. Sometimes the electricity will go out. Sometimes the water will go out. For safety, the location is in a rural environment—far away from the big city. If you can go with the flow, improvise, and smile when things do not go as planned, you will help contribute to the positive atmosphere.

    ABOUT THE LEADERSHIP CENTER

Honduras is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with 65% of the population living below the poverty line. Education is not readily accessible. However, research has demonstrated that one of the fastest ways to alleviate poverty is through education—especially through educating women. Worldwide, every year of secondary school and beyond boosts women’s wages by an average of 20%. When women are educated and earning their own income, they reinvest in their families and communities. Economies change.    e things differently; I’m less afraid of public speaking and am comfortable sharing my ideas and speaking up. With the support and encouragement of the people I have known at The Leadership Center, I’ve realized that I can do many things and make a change in my community. e things differently; I’m less afraid of public speaking and am comfortable sharing my ideas and speaking up. Leadership Mission International has a laser focus: educate classes of 12-15 young women each year over the course of three years so that they will return to their communities as leaders, reinvest in their local economies, and initiate economic and ethical progress in Honduras. The young women who are selected have already navigated significant challenges to complete high school. The Leadership Center grants students’ full scholarships so that upon graduation they may start their own businesses, become teachers, enroll in higher education, or work with nonprofit organizations focused on development. The young women come determined, motivated, inspired, and grateful.

...And they are a lot of fun!
