    Helios HR is excited to partner with our client, an award-winning information technology services and management consulting company that specializes in emerging technologies within the public sector, in their search for a Vice President, People Operations.  The position, headquartered in Reston, VA, will report into the Chief Operating Officer, will be a key executive, a vital part of team drive growth and will require a passionate committed leader.

    The Vice President, People Operations will lead the Human Capital strategy ensuring an employee-centric, high performance culture emphasizing empowerment, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. The position will also lead the implementation of services, policies, and programs through Human Resource staff and assist and advise company managers about Human Resources related issues.

    Successful candidates will have experience in the following areas:

    • Working with the executive team to refine and instill company values and culture and ensure the business lives those values as we grow and change.
    • Managing and developing total compensation and benefits program & strategy.
    • Developing key HR metrics, analyzing data, creating opportunities for improvement, and presenting findings to senior leadership.
    • Lead and drive the recruiting team.
    • Establishes and leads the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a superior workforce, develop talent and retain it.
    • Driving the employee onboarding, training programs, and engagements.
    • Collaborating across the organization to build a performance management process/program.
    • Ongoing coaching and counsel to managers related to employee concerns, company programs, development, and improving employee retention etc.
    • Managing employee relations and investigations within the organization.
    • Providing employees and managers with advice and counsel on employee relations issues.
    • Ensuring the company has adopted best practices in hiring and employment matters, both to meet all regulatory and compliance standards and to create a great place to work.
    • Experience implementing succession plans and models.
    • Experience developing and implementing career path models.
    • Chairs any employee selection committees or meetings.
    • Partners with management to communicate HR policies, procedures, programs and laws.
    • Monitors and advises managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline system of the company. Monitors the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees.
    • Keeps President and CEO informed of significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of company goals, and those that are not being addressed adequately at the line management level.
    • Meets with the CEO on a weekly basis to ensure strategic initiatives are being met.
    • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation
    • Leads the implementation of company safety and health programs. Monitors the tracking of OSHA-required data.
    • Counsels supervisors and managers with ADA issues and work with Office of Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action in dealing with ADA issues as appropriate.
    • Counsels on benefits and leave programs as related to: workers' compensation, short-term disability, long-term disability, family medical leave (FMLA), and other leaves; liaison with central Benefits staff.
    • Performs Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) determination.
    • Advises and consults with employees and management on employee relation’s matters including: discipline process, grievance procedure, organizational development interventions, termination process, performance evaluation process, and appeal process and referrals.
    • Investigates problems, complaints, or new ideas based on complete understanding and application of recognized human resources' concepts, practices and techniques; recommends to managers' corrective action, problem resolution, or work improvements on major issues.
    • Leads competitive market research to establish pay practices and pay bands that help to recruit and retain superior staff.
    • Other duties as required


    • Proven Leader in Human Resources
    • 10+ years of HR experience.
    • Understand the importance of an “Employee Centric HR”.
    • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees while inspiring respect and credibility.
    • Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, creativity to changing needs and situations.
    • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in course of work.
    • Knowledge of contemporary human resources principles, practices and processes.
    • Working knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources. 
    • Demonstrated ability to positively influence human resource decision-makers.
    • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong level of influence and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a complex operating environment.
    • Problem analysis and resolution skills.
    • Bachelor’s degree


    TRAVEL: Travel is required to various locations outside DMV, approximately 10% annually.
